2018 MOGSouth Spring Noggin & Cars and Coffee at Amelia Island – 9 /10 March

Another Huge Turnout and A Great MOGSouth Weekend Event!!

The Friday (9 March)  MOGSouth Noggin at Sliders Seaside Grill in Fernandina Beach, FL was great fun.  The restaurant again gave us the first floor area right inside the entrance.

This was perfect for us and we pretty much filled the space.    A great crowd of MOGSouth members (and Morgan friends) came to the Noggin and joined us.

Unfortunately we missed a few of our normal stalwarts (David C., Norris H., Ellis K., Rick F., John S., Ray M., Jim B., etc.)   Family conflicts, the ongoing Porsche events or other things just got in the way.  It happens.  They were with us in spirit so we raised a glass for them.

While we missed some, we welcomed others.   Lots of new faces.  And we had folks coming from far a field.  Folks from Ohio, Mississippi, Missouri, Georgia, North & South Carolina and of course, a good number from Florida.

We ate and drank and ate some more.  This year, something new, the dessert menu was in an old slide disc viewer (View Master?)  Push the lever down to get the next image (next menu item.)  We all got a big kick out of that but few actually still had room for dessert.

Once again, in their wisdom, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance organizers compressed the weekend, and moved the Concours to Saturday.  The feared Sunday rain. (They should have known better than to listen to the local TV broadcasters.  There was no rain until Sunday night, nor was there any last year, when they did the same thing.)

This meant the Cars and Coffee, as well as the Concours would be held on the same day. Makes things a bit crowded and congested and I have to believe screws up a lot of folks logistics.  Hotel reservations, airline flights, show car arrival times, etc.

Regardless, our plans came off with minimal trauma (although Saturday morning came a bit too early!!)

The Morgans all met at the Surf Restaurant along A1A, at 07:30am Saturday morning.  The restaurant was being renovated so the parking lot was mostly empty.  Then we traveled in convoy to the Cars and Coffee site.  Going into the Cars and Coffee site as a group ensures we are parked together.  If we went in independently we would be parked all over the place.

This year, the organizers wanted us to leave prior to 1:30pm (or to stay to the end of the Concours.)  It would appear they were a bit afraid of the masses leaving the Cars and Coffee, in vehicles, would prove a bit dangerous for the masses leaving the Concours, as pedestrians.

This didn’t really materialize so folks left the Cars and Coffee as they wanted.  We all left around 3:00.  We had a great turnout of Morgans on the field with Roadsters, Plus 8s, 4/4, Aero 8s and even a new, 2017, M3W.  Our display, as always, attracted a big crowd and we spent much of the time answering questions from the attendees.

There were also quite a few Morgan owners and MOGSouth members, unfortunately sans Morgans, that came by to say hello.  Tony Mclaughlin, Bob Wilson, Stu Mosbey,  Gordon King, Ian Levitt and many more whose names I cannot remember (sorry!)

All in all, another tremendous MOGSouth weekend.  The weather was superb, the cars were all expertly displayed and everyone was quite happy with the weekend.  Lots of discussions about the new Morgans announced at Geneva and lots of discussions about road trips and other MOGSouth planned events.   It looks like the MOGSouth year is off to a great start!!!

See you down the road . . .  Mark.

Amelia Island Concours Schedule Change – MOGSouth Noggin and Cars & Coffee Schedule Remains Unchanged

Nothing Changes for the Friday MOGSouth Noggin and Saturday Cars and Coffee

[The Amelia Island Concours organizers have told us they are changing the Concours d’Elegance to Saturday.  This is the same thing as last year. Only the Concours (previously scheduled for Sunday 11 March) is changing. All the MOGSouth activities remain unchanged.  See you there!  Mark]

[Per the Organizers] THE AMELIA ISLAND CONCOURS d’ELEGANCE MOVES TO SATURDAY MARCH 10 DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER.

“Amelia Island, FL – Even in the best-case scenario, the forecast for Sunday’s scheduled Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance includes rain and lots of it. With a strong chance of heavy precipitation forecast for Sunday and a sunshine-filled Saturday in the mix, The Amelia Concours team has moved Sunday’s award-winning Concours to Saturday. The Concours show will now coincide with Saturday’s Cars & Coffee at the Concours presented by Heacock Classic Insurance. “

Friday, March 9, 5PM MOGSouth Noggin at Sliders Seaside Grill.  The Friday Night Noggin will start around 5PM at Sliders Seaside Grill (1998 South Fletcher Ave., Amelia Island – Fernandina Beach, FL).  This is unchanged from prior communications.

The Saturday, March 10, Cars and Coffee will start early Saturday Morning.  MOGSouth will rendezvous as a group at 7:30AM (and leave soon there after) at the Surf Restaurant parking lot (3199 S Fletcher Ave, Fernandina Beach, FL) and convoy to the Cars and Coffee location (Golf holes 1, 10 and 18th holes).  This is unchanged from prior communications.

[For those that attended last year, you will remember we left the Surf Restaurant a little after 0800 and just barely made it on the show field.  In fact, we were parked just where we came onto the field, down the middle of the rest of the cars.   Not really a bad location, but we were basically the last ones on the field.   This was for a 0900 Cars and Coffee Start as well.  Same as this year.   Mark]

If you have a magenta MotorXpo decal:  1) follow the instructions you were given and exit the same way you came in. 2)MotorXpo entrants if you leave before the show please be mindful of the foot traffic.  [I believe all Morgans are at the MotorXpo.  At least all folks that have contacted me have indicated that they have a magenta decal.  If you have a Morgan that has been accepted and have received a green decal, please let me know.  Thanks, Mark.]

Gates will close at 1:30pm, you are free to leave or stay until the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance has ended.   [What we are being told is that you must leave by 1:30PM or stay until the end of the Concours.  Mark]

MOGSouth Noggin and Cars & Coffee at Amelia – March 9 & 10, 2018 (Update)

Details About the Upcoming MOGSouth Noggin and Cars & Coffee at Amelia – March 9 & 10, 2018

It’s getting close to the MOGSouth Noggin and Cars and Coffee at Amelia Island – Friday March 9th and Saturday March 10th.  Sunday March 11th is the actual Concours d’Elegance.

The Friday Night Noggin will start around 5PM at Sliders Seaside Grill (1998 South Fletcher Ave., Amelia Island – Fernandina Beach, FL) but there are other things to do at Amelia Island on Friday, before the Noggin.

Everything is right there at the Ritz-Carlton.  Shopping and test drives are good fun but I really like to see what is going across the auction block.  They have all the cars waiting to be auctioned displayed in the tent on the lawn outside.  Highly recommended!

  • The Shop at the Concours, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, The Ritz-Carlton
  • Test Drives, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, The Ritz-Carlton, Front Driveway
  • Automobilia Merchants, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, The Ritz-Carlton, Open to Public
  • RM Sotheby’s Auction Preview, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, The Ritz-Carlton Ballroom, Ocean Front Lawn & Courtyard, Open to Public
  • The Amelia Island Concours Silent Auction, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, The Ritz-Carlton

The Saturday Cars and Coffee will start early Saturday Morning.  We will rendezvous as a group at 7:30AM (and leave soon there after) at the Surf Restaurant parking lot (3199 S Fletcher Ave, Fernandina Beach, FL) and convoy to the Cars and Coffee location (Golf holes 1, 10 and 18th holes).  If we don’t convoy in together we will be parked all over the place.  So don’t be late.  You must be accepted or you cannot show your car.    But attend anyway, as the Cars and Coffee is free to spectators.

See you there!!  Mark

MOGSouth Noggin and Cars & Coffee at Amelia – March 9 & 10, 2018

Just as we did this past March, MOGSouth will have a Noggin (no host bar) at 5PM Friday (March 9, 2018) at Sliders Seaside Grill, 1998 South Fletcher Ave., Amelia Island – Fernandina Beach, FL (Same location as last year!)

Nothing formal, just show up if you can.  We will be there, somewhere.

This is the Friday (Mar 9) of the Amelia Island Concours weekend.  Saturday (Mar 10) is the Amelia Island Cars and Coffee Event, on the golf course where the big show is held.   And of course, Sunday (Mar 11) is the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.

This past year, we had a great showing of Morgans at the Cars and Coffee event.

The application for the Saturday 10 March Cars and Coffee event  – Cars and Coffee Application 2018   You must be accepted or you cannot show your car.

Lots of MOGSouth members and other enthusiasts come to Amelia Island / Fernandina Beach Florida for the festivities such as the Cars and Coffee at Amelia on Saturday and Concours on Sunday.  Given this, it makes sense for us all together and raise a toast to something, perhaps car related.

Rooms are tough to get (and tend to be pricey) on Amelia Island, over the weekend because of the Concours so plan early.

Lots of folks stay in North Jacksonville, where hotel rooms are plentiful, and the road to Amelia Island, SR-105 (turns into A1A), is only 30-45 minutes, and is absolutely gorgeous.

Please send me a email at series1@cfl.rr.com so I know you are coming and we have sufficient seating at the Noggin.

See you there!!
